Thanks so much to Nicol for setting this Salon for us and I especially like the pictures you have chosen; giving us an atmosphere of the French Salon for public and intellectual discussions on issues of common concern!

  2. I like the picture too. And it has a bit of old time feminist touch to it with the woman smoking a cigar. As I was researching the history of the Salon tradition, I found that many of the Salon were sponsored and hosted by women in the old days, where it was impossible for them to play a more important role in the formal intellectual circles occupied by men.

    By the way, the space of learning is something that interests me as well, although many will take it for granted. Take for example, a classroom space setting as neutral, not realizing it's burdened with meanings of power relations, and social and cultural norms.
